Principal
Brett Thompson is a Principal in CER. He has been advising on employment, workplace relations, and work health and safety law since 2007.
Brett’s clients rely on him for focused commercial and risk-based advice on all aspects of the employment relationship, including engagement, compliance, managing underperformance, business restructuring, termination of employment, and resolving disputes. He has also provided support and advice to clients engaged in enterprise bargaining (including responding to industrial action) and by conducting workplace investigations.
Brett has advised clients in a range of industries including in health, education, the state and commonwealth public sectors, construction, mining, resources, manufacturing, IT, and transport. He is versed in all matter sizes from smaller to large scale workplace policies and contracts to industrial relations and safety strategy and risk management on major projects, significant commercial transactions and due diligence, and industrial relations and enterprise bargaining strategy.
Prior to joining CER, Brett was a Special Counsel at Clayton Utz with a varied workplace and industrial relations and work health and safety practice. Brett previously worked as a Principal Government Lawyer in the APS advising the Commonwealth Government on the Fair Work Act, Fair Work Registered Organisations Act, and Commonwealth workplace relations legislation and policy.
